Cake Wallet FAQ: Troubleshooting & Knowledge Center

# Instant Answers to Your Self-Custody Questions.

Decentralized finance shifts the responsibility of wealth management completely onto your shoulders. When things go wrong, there is no banking hotline to call. Our FAQ page acts as your **crowdsourced guide** to resolving syncing errors, managing custom node connections, and ensuring optimal privacy settings.

Quick Tips

Need Immediate Sync or Balance Help?

If your wallet is stuck syncing or your balance shows zero, **do not panic**. Verify that your device has a stable internet connection, make sure you are connected to an active node under Settings -> Connection, and trigger a **Rescan from Date** using a block creation date slightly preceding your very first deposit transaction. This forces the light client to scan the blockchain again, restoring your balance displays.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why is my balance showing zero XMR after restoring my wallet?

This is almost always caused by an incorrect Restore Height. Monero is a fully private blockchain; transaction records are completely hidden. To show your balance, the wallet client must scan every block. If your restore height was set to today's block or left blank, the app will skip scanning your historical transactions.

To fix: Go to Settings -> Rescan from Date/Block -> Enter a date slightly before your wallet's first transaction. The app will sync those blocks and display your correct balance.

2. What happens if I forget my local 4-to-6 digit PIN?

Because Cake Wallet is a self-custody application, your local PIN is used to decrypt your database. Cake Technologies LLC does not store your PIN on any server. If you forget your PIN, there is no way to reset it.

To recover your wallet: You must delete the Cake Wallet application from your phone, download it again from the official app store, and click Restore Wallet. You will need your 12, 13, or 25-word backup seed phrase to regain access to your funds. When restoring, you can set a brand new local PIN.

3. Does Cake Wallet charge fees for sending and receiving digital assets?

No, Cake Wallet does not add any extra fees for basic transactions. You only pay standard decentralized network transaction fees, which are paid directly to miners to process your transaction on the ledger. For Monero, these fees are highly optimized and typically cost less than $0.01 USD. For in-app token swaps, third-party exchange providers (ChangeNOW, SideShift) charge standard conversion margins.

4. How do I change my connection node to speed up synchronization?

If the auto-selected node is slow or unresponsive, you can easily shift to a custom node:

  1. Go to Settings -> Connection.
  2. Toggle off Auto-select nodes.
  3. Click **Add Node**.
  4. Type in a trusted community node daemon address (e.g. `node.community.xmr.to:18089`).
  5. Click save and select the new node.
5. Are my transaction logs stored on Cake Wallet's servers?

Absolutely not. All private view/spend keys, wallet balances, transaction logs, custom subaddress descriptions, and settings are stored locally on your physical device. The files are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. No data is ever transmitted to Cake Technologies LLC. Your financial history remains entirely private.

6. Can I restore my Cake Wallet seed phrase in a different wallet app?

Yes. Because Cake Wallet uses standardized mnemonic seeds (BIP39 standards and standard 25-word seed formats), you can import your recovery phrase into any other compatible non-custodial wallet (such as Feather Wallet, GUI Wallet, or Monerujo) and recover your funds instantly.

Still Having Issues?

If you encounter advanced bugs, remember that Cake Wallet is completely open source. You can report bugs directly, verify issues, or submit patches on the official GitHub repository of Cake Technologies.
